Frequently Asked Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GRA GRANT WRITING
What are the advantages of using a freelance grant writer rather than one of our members or employees?
That member/employee may be just as successful as a freelance grant writer when it comes to submitting proposals. However, unless that is their primary function or they have a lot of extra time on their hands. Grant writing by its nature is a time consuming business made all the more difficult for members/employees that might be unfamiliar with the process. Their time is compounded to that of an experienced freelance grant writer. This time commitment takes them away from their primary purpose within an organization and consequently doesn’t get the attention the proposal project needs. The freelance grant writer frees them of that obligation.
What types of grants are available to me?
There is a variety of federal, state, local, and private foundation funding available. Which ones are applicable depends on your IRS classification. By this I mean, are you a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, or another type of recognized nonprofit organization. Most counties, municipalities, fire departments, EMS organizations, and law enforcement agencies are eligible for most funding opportunities. Foundation and private funding may be the exception.
If we do not receive our grant do we get our money back?
These fees are non refundable and are not based on the success of the grant award. An important point to realize is in the complex world of grant writing and consulting, there are no guarantees. Regardless of the expertise of your grant writer, it is ultimately up to the funder as to why and who they select to award funds. We do guarantee to meet deadlines, and submit a professional well-written proposal.
How soon will I know if I will get my grant?
Many funders will advertise that timeframe in their guidelines while other grants may take a year or more to make their awards known.
Do you work on contingency or for a percentage of the grant?
The majority of grant writers do not work on contingencies or percentages. Grant seekers or fundraising professionals consider it highly unethical to work on contingency or for a percentage of the grant.
